Softball Recap: Staples-Motley Gets the Win

Staples-Motley took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against Pelican Rapids, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Vikings 5-4 on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Heidi Zimmerman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jade Storry, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kate Kossan, who went 1-for-4 with three runs.

Staples-Motley's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Pelican Rapids, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Pelican Rapids has already played their next game (against Lake Park-Audubon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Staples-Motley will be paying especially close attention to the Vikings' contest: after the Vikings face off against the Raiders, they'll take on Staples-Motley again at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
