Recap: Yorktown Tigers vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders
Even though the Yorktown Tigers have not done well against the Mt. Vernon Marauders recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Yorktown skirted past Mt. Vernon 41-39. This was payback for Yorktown, who suffered a 53-46 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Yorktown to victory were Olivia Conklin and Lilly Sylvester. Conklin scored 11 points along with 3 steals, while Sylvester scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sylvester has scored at least 25% of Yorktown's points.
Yorktown's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Yorktown will be playing at home against Mississinewa at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully New Palestine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
