Volleyball Recap: Archbishop Mitty's Undefeated Season over After 18 Games

Archbishop Mitty was the 3-0 winner over Junipero Serra when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Monarchs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Padres on Thursday. The game marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

While Archbishop Mitty ultimately came up short, they really made Junipero Serra work, particularly in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14.

Having lost for the first time this season, Archbishop Mitty fell to 17-1. As for Junipero Serra, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Archbishop Mitty and Junipero Serra should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Monarchs will challenge St. Ignatius College Preparatory at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (8 vs. 466). The timing is sure in Archbishop Mitty's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Wildcats have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Junipero Serra (ranked 141st) will meet San Mateo (ranked 331st) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
