Wheeling Central Catholic faced Williamstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Maroon Knights blew past the Yellowjackets 10-1. The Maroon Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Steven Brodegard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jake Brown and Zayne Rosnick did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Rosnick went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Rosnick has posted since back in April. Luke Tiu also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Wheeling Central Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Wheeling Central Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Williamstown, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-9.
