Baseball Recap: Apple Springs Comes Up Short

If Apple Springs was riding high fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Burkeville last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell 5-1 to the Brookeland Wildcats on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in March.

Zeth Dugat spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Apple Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Brookeland, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Looking ahead, Apple Springs will challenge Zavalla at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zavalla has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something Apple Springs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Brookeland, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Burkeville at 4:00 p.m. The Wildcats are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
