Basketball Recap: Jayden Evenson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moffat County over Coal Ridge

Moffat County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They fell 63-52 to the Coal Ridge Titans. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Titans are ranked 74th).

Moffat County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayden Evenson, who posted 12 points and three blocks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jr Welch, who put up 13 points and seven boards.

Diego Gamez was a one-man wrecking crew for Coal Ridge as he went 7-for-9 en route to 16 points and five steals. Gamez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 19 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Cornejo, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds.

Moffat County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Coal Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Moffat County will welcome Aspen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Aspen will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Moffat County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coal Ridge, they will head out to face off against Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coal Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
