Football Recap: South View Piles Up the Points Against Gray's Creek

There's no place like home for South View, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 53-17 win over the Gray's Creek Bears. With the Tigers ahead 31-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.

South View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamal Brown out in front who rushed for 89 yards and two TDs on only nine carries. Another rusher making a difference was Cristian Simmons, who rushed for 100 yards and one score on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: South View was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 341 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray's Creek only rushed for 67 rushing yards.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to South View's defense and their three sacks. Brendan Jones was especially locked on to Gray's Creek's QB and sacked him twice. South View received some extra help from Jamarcus Freeman, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Despite the loss, Gray's Creek still got an impressive performance from Dequan'Dj' Anthony, who picked up 103 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one rushing score. Anthony was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 53 yards.

South View's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Gray's Creek, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South View will take on Pinecrest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gray's Creek, they will face off against Douglas Byrd at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
