Baseball Recap: Gulf Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gulf ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Seven Rivers Christian Warriors 6-4. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Jaidon Sopjack made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Jared White was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gio Padilla also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Gulf now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Seven Rivers Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Gulf will be playing at home against Zephyrhills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gulf is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Seven Rivers Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Oak Hall at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Seven Rivers Christian also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.4 runs per game.
