Baseball Recap: Thornton Takes a Loss

Thornton extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-8-1 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Hillcrest Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 13-10 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2018.

Thornton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rashaad Battie, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Hillcrest, they moved to 3-11 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Hillcrest's side, Daquan Dennis and Noah Walls did most of the damage at the plate: Dennis went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI, while Walls went 1-for-2 with three runs and one triple. Walls is becoming a predictor of the Hawks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tramell White, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Thornton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-3 victory against Bowman Academy on the 26th. As for Hillcrest, they will take on Bremen at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
