After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Seagraves, Bovina was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 24-8 victory over the Smyer Bobcats. The score was all tied up 8-8 at the break, but the Mustangs were the (much) better team in the second half.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bovina to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Garcia, who rushed for 71 yards and one score. An impressive showing, but Garcia really ramped things up playing D: he picked up two sacks and made two total tackles.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Bovina proved: they limited Smyer to a paltry -2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Alex Herrera for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bovina didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.6.

Bovina didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jeremy Ramirez and Angel Lara. Lara is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.

The win got Bovina back to even at 2-2. As for Smyer, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bovina will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Farwell at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Smyer, after each having a week off, they and Sundown will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Bobcats will be up against the Roughnecks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.2 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
