Football Recap: Sachem East Comes Up Short

Sachem East fell victim to Ward Melville and their airtight defense on Friday. They had to suffer through a 35-0 loss at the hands of the Patriots. While losing is never fun, Sachem East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 398th, while Ward Melville is ranked 117th).

Joey Benedetto was his usual excellent self, rushing for 178 yards and one TD while picking up 9.9 yards per carry for Ward Melville. With that strong performance, Benedetto is now averaging an impressive 108.5 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Philbrick, who threw for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes.

Sachem East dropped their record down to 3-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Ward Melville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

As of now, neither Sachem East nor Ward Melville have any future games scheduled.
