Softball Game Preview: Poly Bears vs. Hemet Bulldogs

The Poly Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Hemet Bulldogs at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Poly is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Poly didn't have quite enough to beat Liberty and fell 5-4.

Marley Audoma spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katelyn Cortez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brookelyn Duerfeldt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Hemet suffered their closest loss since April 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Paloma Valley by a score of 9-7.

Hemet saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryanne Womack, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Reina Rocha was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Hemet's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5. As for Poly, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6-1.

Poly skirted past Hemet 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
