Baseball Recap: Eastern Montgomery Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

After losing to Bath County the last time they met, Eastern Montgomery decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Mustangs blew past the Chargers 22-12 on Thursday. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Caleb Jones was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cam Sutphin, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Eastern Montgomery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Eastern Montgomery is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Bath County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Coming up, Eastern Montgomery will head out on the road to square off against Parry McCluer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Fighting Blues at the right time seeing as the Fighting Blues are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Bath County, they will welcome Narrows at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers will need to watch out since the Green Waves have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight matches.
