Baseball Recap: Seminary Comes Up Short

Seminary had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 28-7-2 to make it four. They lost 9-3 to the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since March 7th.

Seminary got a good showing from Drake Williamson, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Williamson has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for St. Stanislaus, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-14 record this season. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On St. Stanislaus' side, Parker Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabe Podlin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brooks Ilgenfritz was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

While Seminary had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
