Basketball Game Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. Herriman Mustangs

The Lehi Pioneers will face off against the Herriman Mustangs at 11:10 a.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Lehi is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Weber 73-48. 73 seems to be a good number for the Pioneers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Lehi's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Easton Hawkins led the charge by putting up 19 points. The contest was Hawkins' fifth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Shewell, who posted 19 points.

Meanwhile, Herriman waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Silverwolves as they made off with a 75-53 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 21 points or more this season.

Lehi better keep an eye on Carlo Mulford. He was instrumental in Herriman's win, earning 28 points along with six assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave Mulford a new career-high in rebounds. Cale Barclay was another key player, posting 16 points and eight boards.

Herriman pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points over those games. As for Lehi, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lehi has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Herriman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Lehi came up short against Herriman when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 64-52. Can Lehi avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
