Baseball Recap: Esparto Triumphs

Esparto's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Elite unknown 9-7. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Ezra Bair and Armando Campos were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Bair tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Campos pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Bair got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Campos went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Adrian Montesinos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Montesinos is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Gaven Stotts was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Esparto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Esparto's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Elite, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coincidentally, Esparto and Elite will both be playing Leroy Greene Academy the next time they take the field. The unknown will host the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Spartans will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
