Basketball Recap: Kemarja Peay's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lancaster over Denmark-Olar

Lancaster was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 48-37 to the Denmark-Olar Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Vikings are ranked 22nd).

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kemarja Peay, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zatyra Walls, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Denmark-Olar got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kalen Mayes out in front who earned 13 points and four steals. Mayes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aveion Walker, who had ten points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Lancaster's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Denmark-Olar, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Lancaster will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Richland Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Denmark-Olar, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 57-24 victory against River Bluff on the 2nd.
