For the first time this season, Oroville will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gridley Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Oroville fell victim to Marysville and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 8-0.
Oroville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenessa Igot, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gridley). They put the hurt on Anderson with a sharp 26-4 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Reese Stevens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-6.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Delanie Cloyd, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rebecca Solis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Gridley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 29 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Oroville has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. Gridley's win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Oroville suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Gridley in their previous meeting last Thursday. Will Oroville have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
