Basketball Recap: Little Village Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Saturday, the Little Village Phoenix strolled past the Bogan Bengals with points to spare, taking the game 63-48. Given the Phoenix's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Bengals are ranked 563rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Little Village found their leader in sophomore Dion Boyd Jr, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Boyd Jr a new career-high in assists (eight). Tyshawn Miller was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Little Village smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Little Village's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Bogan, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.

Little Village is taking a road trip to square off against Legal Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Little Village is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.3 points per game this season. As for Bogan, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thornton Fractional South at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
