Baseball Recap: North Tonawanda Takes a Loss

North Tonawanda extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-4 in the process. They lost 12-5 to the Kenmore West Blue Devils. The Lumberjacks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

North Tonawanda saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javi Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Matthew Szabo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Kenmore West, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win they have posted against North Tonawanda since May 19, 2019.

On Kenmore West's side, Mariano Nati was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Joey Ward, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, North Tonawanda will be playing at home against Grand Island at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lumberjacks will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Kenmore West, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-0 victory against Kenmore East on the 5th.
