A first look at possible teams and division placements for the Sac-Joaquin Section 2019 football playoffs

Video: An unreal return by Casa Roble made this week's national Top 10 Plays of the Week

Only four weeks remain in the regular season in the Sac-Joaquin Section. It may be hard to believe but the football playoff picture is starting form.

The first round games will be played November 8 at home sites. The section finals will take place either November 29 or 30.

A total of 80 teams will make the playoffs and will be divided into seven divisions. The six largest will have 12 teams each and D7 will have an eight team bracket.

Each league will qualify one automatic entry based on the team who wins league. If a league has multiple league champions they will all qualify for the playoffs.

There will be 57 at-large bids. Each at-large bid will be based on their overall CalPreps (MaxPreps) rating. An important thing to remember, each division may vary with how many at-large bids it gets. For example, Division III could have 10 automatic entries and only two at-large bids.

A team must win four games to qualify.

Division I

AE= anticipated Auto Entry

Folsom, 2.503, 5, AE, 1
Oak Ridge, 2,482, 4, AL, 2
Monterey Trail, 2,288, 5, AE, 3
Elk Grove, 1,879, 5, AE, 4

Edison, 2,570, 5, AE, 10
Pleasant Grove, 2,560,  4, AL, 11
Gregori, 2,264, 4, 12

Right now we have Elk Grove and St. Mary's anticipated league winners. Both play in D1 leagues. Inderkum and Cosumnes Oaks move down to D2 with this current scenario.

Bubble teams: Sheldon, Enochs, Franklin (EG)

Division II
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
AL= anticipated At-large Entry

Inderkum, 2,243, 6, AE, 1
Rocklin, 2,177, 5, AL, 2
Cosumnes Oaks, 2,207, 6, AL, 3
Lincoln, 2,018, 4, AE, 4
Granite Bay, 2,094, 4, AL, 5
Whitney, 1,959, 3, AL, 6
Vacaville, 1,992, 4, AE, 7
Central Catholic, 359, 3, AE, 8
Downey, 2,114, 3, AL, 9
Oakmont, 2,065, AL, 10
Jesuit, 2,124, 2, AL, 11
Tracy, 1,999, 2, AL, 12

There are several schools in this D2 scenario that still need to get to four wins to have a chance.

Bubble teams: Grant, Lodi, Central Valley

Division III
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
AL= anticipated At-large Entry

Capital Christian, 405, 5, AE, 1
Buhach Colony, 1,918, 6, AE, 2
Vista del Lago, 1,923, 6, AL, 3
Roseville, 2,002, 5, AL, 4
Christian Brothers, 4, AL, 5

Atwater, 1,860, 5, AL, 7
Yuba City, 1,787. 3, AL, 8

Ponderosa, 1,964, 3, AL, 10
Grace Davis, 1,901, 5, AL, 11
Johnson, 2003, 4, AE, 12

This assumes Lincoln wins the FVL which knocks Placer and Rio Linda back to D4. This also assumes Central Catholic wins the VOL.

Bubble teams: River Valley, Sacramento, Laguna Creek, Golden Valley

Division IV
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
AL= anticipated At-large Entry

Placer, 1,340, 4, AL, 1

Mantreca, 1,686, 4, AL, 3
Sierra, 1,427, 5, AL, 4

Nevada Union, 1,611, 4, AL, 8
Kimball, 1,507, 5, AL, 9
Vanden, 1,730, 2, AL, 10
Beyer, 1,654, 3, AE, 11
East Union, 1,615, 3, AL, 12

As mentioned above, league winners will potentially shuffle D4.

Bubble teams: El Camino, Johansen

Division V
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
AL= anticipated At-large Entry

Center, 1,292, 5, AE, 1
Escalon, 823, 6, AE, 2
Bradshaw Christian, 350, 5, AE, 3
Colfax, 581, 4, AL, 4
Casa Roble, 1,220, 3, AE, 5
Sonora, 957, 2, AE, 6
Rosemont, 1,480, 4, AL, 7
Woodland, 1,325, 4, AL, 8
Liberty Ranch, 1,180, 2, AL, 9
Livingston, 1,243, 4, AL, 10
Los Banos, 1,411, 2, AL, 11
El Dorado, 1,131, AL, 12

In this current scenario there are not enough teams to fill DV. We think section may move Casa Roble to DV even if they win a D4 league.

Bubble teams: Orestimba, Foothill, Galt, Mesa Verde

Division VI
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
AL= anticipated At-large Entry

Amador, 694, 6, AL, 1
Himar, 696, 5, AL, 2
Ripon, 963, 6, AL, 3
Caleveras, 825, 4, AL, 4

Union Mine, 1,094, 4, AL, 6
Highlands, 798, 6, AL, 7
Hughson, 710, 4, AL, 8
Summerville, 2, AL, 9
Linden, 672, 3, AL, 10
Argonaut, 474, AL, 11
Marysville, 938, AL, 12

Right now with this situation we think the section drops Ripon Christian and Golden Sierra to DVII even though they won a DVI league.

Bubble teams: Waterford, Millennium

Division VII
School - enrollment, current wins, bid, current ranking
AE= anticipated Auto Entry
