Baseball Recap: Southwest Guilford Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Southwest Guilford won the last time they faced Southeast Guilford and things went their way on Friday too. Southwest Guilford sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Southeast Guilford. That's two games straight that the Cowboys have won by just one run.

Kaden Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Southwest Guilford let Graham Sutherland and Connor Kennedy run wild. Sutherland scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Kennedy got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Those three hits gave Sutherland a new career-high.

Southwest Guilford pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Southeast Guilford, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest Guilford will take on Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grimsley will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Southwest Guilford surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southeast Guilford, they and Western Guilford will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Guilford has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.29 runs per game on average), something Southeast Guilford will no doubt try to take advantage of.
