The Lakeland Preparatory Lions will face off against the White Station Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
White Station will be up against a hot Lakeland Preparatory team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Lakeland Preparatory came out on top against Lake County by a score of 14-9 on Saturday.
The team relied heavily on Ryan Pitts, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Wyatt Helton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Lakeland Preparatory always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake County only posted an OBP of .382.
Meanwhile, White Station never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against St. Benedict at Auburndale as White Station made off with a 12-0 win. The Spartans have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Townsend Buring made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Buring was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Hayes Bennett was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Lomax, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Lakeland Preparatory's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for White Station, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Lakeland Preparatory was able to grind out a solid win over White Station in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. Will Lakeland Preparatory repeat their success, or does White Station have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
