Basketball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. Elkin Buckin' Elks

Surry Central is 8-2 against Elkin since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Surry Central Golden Eagles will square off against the Elkin Buckin' Elks at 8:00 p.m. One thing working in Surry Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Surry Central is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Forbush: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Surry Central blew Forbush out of the water with a 76-33 final score. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season.

Tripp Mcmillen was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Woodring, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkin). They blew past Starmount 76-34 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Elkin has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Surry Central, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Everything came up roses for Surry Central against Elkin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 76-48 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Surry Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
