Football Recap: Hickory Hawks vs. Indian River Braves

Hickory had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-6 to make it nine. They came up short against the Indian River Braves, falling 41-16. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Braves are ranked 49th).

As for Indian River, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.6 points over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Indian River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaiden Sykes, who rushed for 103 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries. James McCoy also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.

Hickory does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Indian River, they will host Kempsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Braves' offense will have their work cut out for them.
