Slaton was handed a 11-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Friona Chieftans, sneaking past 7-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Jabob Luna, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Floyd, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Slaton's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-11-1. As for Friona, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Slaton will square off against rival Dimmitt at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Friona is set to face off against their familiar foe Muleshoe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
