Softball Recap: Garber Takes a Loss

Garber extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-3 in the process. They lost 18-2 to the Clio Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dukes have suffered since June 8, 2024.

Grace Zwetzig was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Ella Kokaly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Clio, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games.

On Clio's side, Addie Taylor made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Taylor has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Malin, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Summer Stevens, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Clio beat Garber by a score of 8-3 later that day.
