Football Game Preview: Ponte Vedra Sharks vs. Bartram Trail Bears

The Ponte Vedra Sharks will face off against the Bartram Trail Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Ponte Vedra sitting on 12 straight wins and Bartram Trail on ten.

Ponte Vedra can't be too worried about heading out to take on Bartram Trail: they just beat Yulee at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Sharks came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 14-7 last Monday. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Hornets are ranked 104th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ponte Vedra found their leader in sophomore Izzy Murray, who threw for 190 yards and one TD, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bartram Trail walked away with it. They took down the Broncos 27-13 on Monday.

Bartram Trail's win came from a few key players Ponte Vedra will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kaila Pierce, who threw for 238 yards and three TDs. She is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Layla Davis was Pierce's top target, picking up 52 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Ponte Vedra's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.6 points on average over those games. As for Bartram Trail, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Ponte Vedra was able to grind out a solid win over Bartram Trail in their previous meeting back in March, winning 18-7. Do the Sharks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
