Baseball Recap: Franklin County Takes a Loss

Franklin County had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it six. They fell 6-1 to the Lawrenceburg Tigers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Franklin County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Stephenson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Lawrenceburg, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games.

On Lawrenceburg's side, Ollie Safaviyan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Safaviyan has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, J.P. Izzo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Cornett, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Coming up, Lawrenceburg will challenge North Decatur at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.8 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Franklin County will be paying especially close attention to Lawrenceburg's game: after Lawrenceburg faces off against Rushville, they'll take on Franklin County again at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
