Two dominant signal callers in Xyran Upshaw and Savoy Nichols are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brenham Cubs will head out to square off against the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brenham is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Brenham gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They walked away with a 33-25 win over Ellison. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cubs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Eagles are ranked 345th).

Brenham had a senior duo take command as Chris Guidry picked up 78 receiving yards and a pair of scores and Cartelle Brown picked up 70 receiving yards and two TDs. Guidry has been hot recently, having also posted two or more receiving touchdowns the last four times he's played.
Brenham didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kristian Prosper and Quincy Adams. Brenham got some further help from Doyle Brown: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles.
Meanwhile, University was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Waco 36-7. With the Trojans ahead 22-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
University's win came from a few key players Brenham will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was London Smith, who picked up 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Ray Brown Jr. handled things on the ground, rushing for 124 yards.
University didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Waco to a completion percentage of just 28.6%. The team can thank Khylen Estelle for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for University; they were averaging 60.8%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 60.8%.
Brenham's record is now 8-0. As for University, their record now sits at 5-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Brenham has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 154.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Brenham against University in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 43-7 victory. In that game, the Cubs amassed a halftime lead of 36-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
