Baseball Recap: Hartfield Academy Snags 17th Victory in Last 20 Games

Hartfield Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Jackson Academy Raiders on Monday. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 5-1 win back in April.

JP Abt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Oakley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Grayson Vance was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Hartfield Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Academy only posted an OBP of .281.

Hartfield Academy has been performing well recently as they've won 17 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. As for Jackson Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-14.

Hartfield Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Raiders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
