Basketball Game Preview: Mead Mavericks vs. Frederick Golden Eagles

The Mead Mavericks will square off against the Frederick Golden Eagles at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Mead sitting on three straight wins and Frederick on nine.

Mead is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They strolled past Thompson Valley with points to spare, taking the game 52-36. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Eagles are ranked 70th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mead found their leader in sophomore Madi Clark, who went 8-for-17 on her way to 21 points and four steals. Clark's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Darby Haley, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Frederick made easy work of Lewis-Palmer on Wednesday and carried off a 58-37 victory. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 21 points or more this season.

Frederick pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points over those games. As for Mead, their victory bumped their record up to 22-3.

Everything came up roses for Mead against Frederick when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 54-19 win. In that contest, Mead amassed a halftime lead of 33-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
