Softball Game Preview: Newman Central Catholic Comets vs. Orion Chargers

The Newman Central Catholic Comets will head out to challenge the Orion Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Newman Central Catholic has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newman Central Catholic managed to slip by Princeton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Comets lost 15-5 to the Tigers on Thursday.

Lucy Oetting was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Orion's offense. They came up short against Mercer County on Thursday, falling 6-0. The loss continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Carlee DeLoose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. She also tossed eight walks, marking her first of the season.

At the plate, Orion saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khloe Nelson, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Newman Central Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Orion, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Newman Central Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Orion in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 as they fell 8-5. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
