Gate City proved they can win big last Friday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Abingdon Falcons. Gate City haven't had any issues with Abingdon recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Joe Arrington and Walker Hillman scored both of Gate City's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 22 goals.

Gate City's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Abingdon, their loss ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5-1.

Gate City and Abingdon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Blue Devils will square off against Central Wise at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (27 vs. 182). Meanwhile, Abingdon (ranked 63rd) will meet Lee (ranked 237th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
