Maplewood has gone 6-1 against Chalker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Rockets will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Maplewood's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
On Thursday, Maplewood made easy work of Lordstown and carried off a 14-1 win. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kale Calvert tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Gabe Erwin was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Clower, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Meanwhile, Chalker came up short against Grand Valley on Thursday and fell 6-3.
Troy McCartney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, T,J, Williams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Maplewood's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Chalker, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maplewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chalker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Maplewood was able to grind out a solid win over Chalker in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
