Basketball Recap: Maricopa Takes a Loss

Maricopa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Canyon del Oro Dorados, falling 73-32. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dorados apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.

Maricopa's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isis Anderson, who posted six points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenifer Gordoa, who scored nine points along with five boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Maricopa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canyon del Oro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madisen Fleury, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and six assists. Those six assists gave Fleury a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Coleman, who went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points and four steals.

Maricopa's record now sits at 2-14. As for Canyon del Oro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maricopa has already played their next game (against Casa Grande), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Canyon del Oro has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Mountain View.
