Basketball Recap: Caprock Academy Skates Past Soroco with Ease

There's no place like home for Caprock Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 75-39 victory over the Soroco Rams. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-18.

Caprock Academy found their leader in sophomore Tristin Bird, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Corwyn Watts, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Caprock Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Soroco saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brayden Dudley earned 14 points and four steals. That was a full 35.9% of Soroco's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Braxton Zander was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Caprock Academy moved to 6-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Soroco, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Caprock Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-49 defeat against Ridgway on the 4th. As for Soroco, they will square off against Vail Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vail Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.
