Baseball Game Preview: Wayne County War Eagles vs. Vancleave Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Wayne County will face off against Vancleave. The War Eagles will square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Wayne County has won five straight at home, while Vancleave won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Wayne County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Vancleave just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 11-4.

For Vancleave's part, Hunter Harper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Harper has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Martin Shaw was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kyle Capers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Vancleave kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.

Vancleave is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Wayne County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
