Softball Recap: St. Marys Find Success

St. Marys proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 12) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Doddridge County Bulldogs, sneaking past 4-2. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Cali Masters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Bullman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee McGrady, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

St. Marys' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Doddridge County, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-3.

St. Marys has already played their next matchup, a 9-3 win against Petersburg on the 18th. As for Doddridge County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-3 victory against Greenbrier West on the 19th.
