Basketball Recap: Highland Springs Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

If Varina wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Highland Springs, they should've done a better job of containing Jesiah Young. The Highland Springs Springers breezed past the Varina Blue Devils to the tune of 79-23 on Thursday thanks in part to Young, who posted 26 points. The game was her fifth in a row with at least 16 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Samaya Brown, who earned 19 points. She has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times she's played.

Kya Ingram and Kaliyah Straughter certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Ingram had ten points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Straughter put up six points in addition to 12 boards and three steals. Paris Harper also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Highland Springs is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points over those games. As for Varina, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Highland Springs has already played their next contest, a 46-43 loss against The Covenant on the 14th. As for Varina, they are taking a road trip to face off against Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
