The El Rancho Dons will take on the El Segundo Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
El Rancho is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 36-12 margin over Whittier on Friday. The contest was close at halftime, but the Dons turned on the heat in the second half with 23 points.
El Rancho's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Carlos, who rushed for 23 yards and one TD, and also caught one touchdown. Ray Madrid III was another key player, gaining 39 total yards and two touchdowns.
El Rancho's run defense was locked in: Whittier could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While one picked up at least seven total tackles, Andrew Orihuela stood above the rest. He picked up 1.5 sacks and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss). El Rancho's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.

El Rancho didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Sandoval and Jamie Garcia. El Rancho is undefeated when Sandoval posts one or more interceptions, but 2-3 otherwise. Orihuela was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, El Segundo's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They really took it to Centennial for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven games by 28 points or more so far this season.
El Rancho better keep an eye on Ryan Wiacek. He was instrumental in El Segundo's win, throwing for 199 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. Lincoln Quaintance helped Wiacek out on the ground, picking up 43 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 43 yards.
El Segundo's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.0 points on average over those games. As for El Rancho, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. El Rancho has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like El Segundo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 203.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
