It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Westerly had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Coventry Oakers a 61-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 28 points or more this season.

A big part of Westerly's victory came down to the chemistry between Landon Husereau and his top target Daniel Cummings. Husereau threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes while Cummings gained 112 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Husereau a new career-high in passer rating (164.3).

Westerly didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Coventry to a completion percentage of just 26.7%. The Bulldogs have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.

Westerly is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.5 points on average over those games. As for Coventry, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Westerly and Coventry are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bulldogs will take on West Warwick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Coventry, they will square off against Tolman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Oakers will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 25.7 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
