Football Game Preview: Donovan Catholic Griffins vs. Howell Rebels

The Donovan Catholic Griffins will head out on the road to face off against the Howell Rebels at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Donovan Catholic is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

While Donovan Catholic's win against Manalapan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Griffins won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Braves 23-22.

Kahden Davis produced another solid effort throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes, while also rushing for 67 yards on only seven carries. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (128.7). 83 of Davis' passing yards were hauled in by Tyler Hunter, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Meanwhile, Howell ended up a good deal behind Point Pleasant Boro on Friday and lost 28-14. The Rebels were down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

This is the second loss in a row for Howell and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Donovan Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Donovan Catholic beat Howell 13-6 when the teams last played back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Griffins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
