Softball Recap: Thunder Ridge Takes Down Ranked Pocatello

Thunder Ridge faced Pocatello in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Titans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Thunder. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by exactly two runs.

Carly Jones tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chelsea Adams was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Layla Carvajal also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Thunder Ridge and bumps their season record up to 7-4. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-2 Blackfoot (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.3% over those games). As for Pocatello, they moved to 8-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Thunder Ridge will head out to take on Rigby at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pocatello, they will face off against Blackfoot at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
