Softball Game Preview: Wellington Dukes vs. Mapleton Mounties

The Wellington Dukes will challenge the Mapleton Mounties at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wellington has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wellington managed to slip by Black River the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Dukes lost 17-2 to the Pirates on Monday. The Dukes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leighla Selzer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mapleton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They never let Monroeville get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Tuesday. The Mounties might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Mapleton pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Wellington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Wellington might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Mapleton in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Dukes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
