Basketball Recap: Courtland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Spotsylvania

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Courtland). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Spotsylvania Knights 55-28. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Knights are ranked 374th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Courtland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Schalkofski, who posted 12 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Airyana Maze, who had 12 points.

Courtland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matches.

Courtland is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Spotsylvania, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Courtland will head out to challenge Caroline at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Spotsylvania, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 87-30 loss against Culpeper County on the 22nd.
