Softball Recap: Benzie Central's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Benzie Central dropped their record down to 10-4 on Saturday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Elk Rapids Elks, falling 16-5. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 14-8 to the Elks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Elk Rapids, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 21-3. The result was nothing new for the Elks, who have now won 16 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Elk Rapids' part, Coraline Rainey made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rainey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elk Rapids let Brooke Fluty and Rhielynn Skrocki run wild. Fluty went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Skrocki went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Skrocki has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Haleigh Yocom was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Benzie Central will challenge Suttons Bay at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elk Rapids, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-5 victory against Kingsley on the 12th.
