Baseball Recap: Newark Academy Gets the Win

Doane Academy typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Newark Academy proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against Doane Academy by a score of 5-1. For the Minutemen, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory Doane Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

David Guadiane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jared Levine, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Sampson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Newark Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Doane Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

Newark Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Doane Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
