Preview: Payton College Prep Grizzlies vs. Mt. Vernon Rams
The Payton College Prep Grizzlies's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Mt. Vernon Rams at 10:30 a.m. on December 28th. Payton College Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 264 points over their last four games.
Payton College Prep scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They took down Mather 74-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon waltzed into their match Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They strolled past Teutopolis with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Teutopolis is ranked 111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Navontae D nesbit jr., who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The match was D nesbit jr.'s tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cale Maurer, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Payton College Prep's record is now 5-6. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
