Baseball Game Preview: Homer Trojans vs. Westhill Warriors

The Homer Trojans will face off against the Westhill Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Homer's victory against Chittenango wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Bears on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, while Westhill put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for South Jefferson. The Warriors blew past the Spartans 9-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Anthony Sampo made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Sampo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Kevin Sisson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Eric Holstein, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. Holstein is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Colin White, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Homer skirted past Westhill 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
